Reflection on The Giver

I found that the giver could easily reflect the world in the near future. Where everyone will be controlled by a few people, like robots. There are already some examples of this these days where children, in China are put to work in factories, like slaves. If they don’t work hard enough they are beaten or killed. I found this book a very easy read, but with a strong message. I think that this kind of book requires a very clever mind to plan everything out, yet still leave us wanting to know more. Like where and when it took place. Does it take place in the near future. And could this actually happen. These are all questions I asked myself, and still ponder on. I think this is a very good and interesting book, only lacking a good ending, but I suppose that the cliffhanger ending was just to leave a path for the sequel.

NO MORE HOMEWORK

In my opinion homework destroys education. It reduces the creativity and fun from school. Homework was meant to review what you learnt in school and enforce it but in my opinion teachers at ISB are dishing out homework without giving a thought to it. Homework clogs up our free time and prevents us from having fun. Instead of playing with your sister or having fun you need to stare at a bright, headache inducing screen writing a reflection for two hours. I am not against homework in fact I agree with it but not in the quantity that it is given now. I do not believe in wasting weekends writing reports instead of having fun in the sun.

English Paper

1.        Your biggest role model

My biggest role model would have to be my dad. He always gives me helpful advice on things even though he is away a lot. My dad works for CEN a company that works with the European commission and he is the project leader. He can always answer my questions about logic and math but   he is not exactly Einstein in Science and that’s where my other role model comes in, mum. Mum has a Masters in some sort of science so she is very knowledgeable in science. With this little arrangement I can get all of my questions answered through just two people. My dad is a very persevering person. If the TV broke he would be standing behind it all day trying to get it to work.

2.       Define a “hero”/ “heroine”

I think of a hero as someone who helps other people whenever he or she can. He or she is always looked up to. You don’t need to be superman to be a superhero you just need to be kind willing to give and help and to explain your ideas openly. You need to be a very open minded person who is willing to accept other people’s beliefs, thoughts and ideas. You need to be a risk taker and sand up for what is right. You need to be able to help people when you can.
3.
             A moment from your childhood

The one thing that I remember from my childhood is when dad would always put me on his shoulders. I used to love that he would throw me onto his head and we would walk along and I would sing and look around and generally have a good time until one day dad said. Your too heavy I can’t lift you anymore, and I think that was the saddest moment of my life.  One time I fell asleep on dads shoulders and he was walking for three hours with me drooping over his head. Once we got a really good picture of me on dads shoulders outside grannies house and we still have it sitting in the photo album.
4.
Something you would like to change in your life

I don’t want to change anything in my life apart from that I would love to have a twin brother the same age as me for me to play with. I’m not saying that I don’t like my four year old screaming kicking little girl actually quite the opposite I love her I can’t imagine what life would be like without her. But I would still really love to have an identical eleven year old twin brother, we could play games together and go to school together and talk, I would love to have someone to talk to.
5.       What are you trying to get better at, this year

Voyage to Zorpia

I Going Out
I woke up. It was the usual summer day in Barkshire a cloudy blue sky with a hint of rain and the quiet chirping of the birds in harmony with the rustle of the leaves in the trees. It was eleven o’clock not my usual wake up time but since I went to bed at 2 o’clock it figured. It was Saturday; one of my favourite days because I did all of my homework on Friday and that left me completely free to do whatever I want. Another reason why I was feeling good was because after breakfast I would be going out with my friends, Oliver and Joel to go and get the brand new game, “Voyage to Zorpia” at HMV. After a couple of minutes of thinking I heaved myself up and ran downstairs to get my breakfast.
I was greeted by my older sister Jane who stared at me for a long moment looking at me like I was going crazy. I decided not to tell her that she had a strange white scar that looked like writing because she would probably have some smart answer to my question. I figured out what she was staring at soon after. When I finished eating my usual Saturday breakfast, boiled eggs, I ate them ravenously, eager to see what Jane had been staring at.
When I was done I pulled my chair out and ran to the toilet to see what it was my sister was staring at when I looked into the mirror I got a huge shock just above my left eyebrow I had the words scarred “taken”, I tried to wash it off in the antique sink but it stayed, stubbornly. Then I raced back to the breakfast table where I found my parents, David and Glenda, chewing on toast slowly, eying me strangely just like Jane had done. I asked them what they could see and they automatically replied,” Nothing”.
Even though, as you would have guessed, I was pretty scared about the scar that was above my left eye I thought I better leave it at that. I sprinted up the stairs to get dressed trying to think about everything but my newly acquired injury. I pulled on some old jeans and a ragged T- shirt and ran out to meet my friend’s barely saying goodbye to the rest of my family.
I met my friends on the corner of Gypsy Lane by the bus stop. “So are we going or not”, Oliver demanded, “you’ve kept us waiting ages”, Joel added. The bus came a couple of minutes later, number 41; we got on and found some seats even though it was pretty crowded. I got a seat next to a grandma while my two friends sat together at the back. It took around ten minutes to get to the big HMV shop.

When we got to the huge HMV shop we scoured the shelves looking for one of the most popular games of the month. But to our horror there were none left so my friends and I went to the smaller “Game” where we found a whole collection of Voyage to Zorpia’s. When we had all bought our video game, which were quite expensive (£35.00) we went back to the bigger mall, which contained the HMV, and we watched the Red Baron which was pretty rubbish as most films are in my opinion.

II Missing
When I got back home it was 3:33, lunch time. We had beans on toast which had almost become a tradition for weekend meals. The bread was pretty arid and the beans tasted like rubber but I ate it anyway. My sister finished first and she immediately got up to do her ton of high school homework. Suddenly there was a loud banging and a sucking noise and then a silent squeak. I rushed up to see what had happened. “Has something fallen” I thought anxiously. When I got upstairs I found her computer on with my game in the DVD drive. “What was she doing with my game?” I asked myself.
I looked but I couldn’t find any sign of her. A couple of minutes later mum called the police they came and while they were searching and interviewing I was bored so I started playing Voyage to Zorpia. As soon as I pressed the start button there was a fuzzy green, yellow haze, then I blacked out. I was gone, taken to another dimension, the computer dimension.

I woke up. Well it wasn’t exactly waking up it was more like being reborn. I looked around me everything looked pixely and strange but I couldn’t work out the right word, oh there it was it looked like a video game but not just any video game it was Voyage to Zorpia!
There were two people who greeted me when I opened my eyes; an elderly man greeted me along with my anxious sister. I asked so many questions to the elderly man I hardly let him talk but finally I got down to the big where am I? And why am I here? And so the old man who turned out to be named Bryan told me the story of Zorpia.

III the Story

One day about 20 years back computer games as we know them were invented, the creator of Zorpia, Patrick Jones came up with a new way of creating and storing video game characters he would take people into his virtual storage space, Zorpia, using a vortex manipulator that he and his group of scientists invented at “Jones Factories”. He did this for a while and using another wormhole that we nicknamed “the Flash drive” he would transport them to the video game that he was creating thus the people would be slaves of the video game players and be trapped in that game forever more.
“We Zorpians are starting to try and plan a rebellion we just don’t know where to start we have already tried to infiltrate the vortex manipulator when one of the taken ones comes through but the trip can only be done one way and we have lost many lives trying. So that night when I was lying in bed (everyone had a house in Zorpia) I tried to come up with some way of destroying the evil flash drive I looked at it from what seemed to be millions of different perspectives but my theories never added up or they always had some kind of flaw so I gave up after a hour of trying to come up with plans and I started to think about other things such as my parents who would definitely be extremely worried that my sister and I just disappeared into another dimension

IV Meeting
I woke up, it was morning and thankfully I was still alive. It was hard to take in the fact that I was lying in a bed which was in another dimension but today was all about planning how to defeat the flash drive and there was no time for thinking about how I could be where I was. In Zorpia you can’t get dressed and your image stays the same so I simply shuffled out of the door to go to the council meeting, which I was already late for. I found my row, H and took a seat at seat 36. By the looks I thought I was sitting next to some engineer but it was hard to tell. Suddenly here was a loud clearing of the throat from the presenter and we all turned silent. “Hello” the man said. “My name is Jacob Blake and I am the head of Zorpians military department and I am here to ask you all, what do we do”, “Thousands of people disappear every year and none of even the cleverest military bosses know what to do, but as all of are gathered here today I thought that maybe one of our three thousand might have some idea of what we should do”.
A small man with a moustache suddenly blurted out, “We should and will all join in if we are to defeat the flash drive but I don’t think any of us have a clue about how we can destroy it”. Suddenly I had a brain wave! It will be just like in the cheap stupid cartoons when they always have a simple answer. I remembered that time when I was at my cousins house and he was watching one of those new Warner Bros Scooby Doo episodes and the evil clown was eating people but then Velma came up with a great plan to make the clown eat lots of people and then it spat all of them back out again and obviously they all lived happily ever after.
I know what to do! I shouted. Jacob Blake and everyone else swivelled their heads around and stared at me. “If we all go provoke the flash drive and he takes us all then it might be too much and he would spit everything out including previous taken ones and then he would explode and we would never need to deal with him again,” I said. And the explosion of the flash drive would cause the Vortex to reopen allowing us to pass freely through as much as we like. And so the plan began.

V Mario??
Everyone got together in the Zorpia square. Because three people disappear we only needed to wait twenty minutes until the flash drive came and took one of us. After fifteen minutes of waiting a bright blue light appeared and grew bigger and bigger… Suddenly a man was sucked in then another and then another then one by one we all disappeared into the vortex PHOOSH! Then everything was black white and then nothing. Suddenly a bright flash of green and… We were all in a Mario game, and we were all minis Mario’s, Peaches, And Bowsers and other Mario game characters. After a few minutes we started to get anxious.
Did the plan fail…? And then a small explosion happened in the void we had come through then it closed taking us with it. Then my memory ends. Now I am 68 I am in a medical asylum. I am writing this book to try and prove to you that you are all wrong. This is not a story this is reality. But as you can see this book was written by Alfie a humble 6th grader. Or was it? And you can also see that this is obviously a fiction story written in school and at home or was it???????
